At the heart of the main garden is an elevated hardwood deck from which all the key areas can be viewed. A stainless steel and cedar pergola sails above the dining area of the deck and frames the views of the garden from the house. The main axis from the drawing room through the pergola culminates in a Caribbean feel gazebo facing diagonally back across the lawn to the deck.

The curving lawn and the relaxed tropical feel of the planting offsets the underlying geometry. The recurrent theme of the stone gardens at pivotal points in the layout and the use of zinc and copper pots act to unify the complexity of the levels.

There is a close relationship between the intermediate level of the lower courtyard and both the family room and the pool. Gentle limestone steps sweep down to the glazed walls of the family room. From here, a stone paved terrace bounded by a crisp box hedge allows clear views through to Christchurch and lower Hampstead.

The entrance to the property from the street is deliberately understated, with the forecourt dominated by a large Magnolia in a raised planter and an underlit water feature featuring a single slab of black granite and 19 jets creating a continuous curtain of water flowing off the edge of the stone.
