The architecture team at Homestyletoto is behind this wonderful family home. They employ a traditional home typology but express it in a relevant and contemporary way. The U-shape plan features one shorter arm and one longer arm, creating a courtyard area that spills into the outdoor area.

The material palette is simple and sophisticated, inside and out. It's a beautiful home perfect for family life. Let's step inside and take a closer look!

The exterior

Before we move to the interior, let's take a quick look the enclosure. The simple white volumes feature large rectangular openings that seamlessly connect the interior and exterior. The metal profile roof, in a deep copper colour, returns down the gable ends forming little hats of sorts atop the building.

Great consideration has been given to the outdoor areas and landscaping. Raised seating is combined with sunken seating, covered areas, open areas – you name it, there's an outdoor space perfect for every situation!

White and bright

Moving inside, the bright white interior is so crisp and contemporary. The incorporation of timber elements give the space a homely quality and breaks up the sheer volume of white.

A stair – which is not far from being a ladder – leads up to the mezzanine level that contains a sleeping quarter. By separating the levels, these two functions are delimited without the need for walls or other barriers which often truncate spaces.

Mezzanine bedroom

Here we can see the sleeping quarter – simple and sweet. A mattress sits directly on top of the floor, a small lamp in the corner, while a very large skylight steals the show.

Imagine drifting off too sleep beneath the stars and waking to the rise of the sun. Our lives have become increasingly attached to the natural rhythms of the earth we inhabit, and often at the detriment of our health, so this is a welcome invasion of the sun's cycle!

A minimalist kitchen

The kitchen is has a sleek minimal aesthetic. The white-on-white-on-white look is given an industrial edge with stainless steel fitting and fixtures. Two basket-like pendant light fixtures add a softer, unexpected touch.

Completely open to the living area, the space planning of the kitchen appeals to our modern open plan sensibilities. It retains a degree of separation thanks to the large kitchen island and the alignment with the central wall running through the hall.

Office and living

This lovely living space doesn't shy away from a splash of colour. The vibrant yellow is complemented by a smoky blue tone. These blue panels enclose an inbuilt study area that can be closed off from the rest of the space.

The master bedroom

Before we end our delightful dérive through the spaces of this home, let's take a look at one more: this wonderful bedroom! A small triangular window sits high above the bed at the gable end of the volume. To the right, a boxed window is painted with a vibrant red and a fitted with a window seat – it forms the perfect nook to recline and read a book.

As far as bedrooms go, this one is hard to fault! If you haven't quite had your fix, fear not, we have another great design from Homestyletoto for you: A Korean home tailored to the families needs.
