The house we are going to show you today is located in a secluded spot area of Gyeongbuk, South Korea. It stands alone by the roadside, at the foothills of the mountains. The surrounding mountainous terrain is cloaked in greenery. Only a few traditional Korean dwellings are seen scattered here and there, none of which are in close proximity to this house.

It also boasts of another advantage. The region being encircled by mountains, enjoys a warmer winter than the rest of the country. The solitary location may look intriguing from a distance, but as you approach the house you soon start to have a very different notion about it. Join us as we begin our tour of this picturesque mountain home…

Façade of the house

You may find the façade of the house, especially its sloped roof, as the very reflection of the silhouette of the landscape behind. It is designed by Home Style Tote, a reputed architecture firm of the country. Standing on a yet to be landscaped elevated the ground, the house affords great views of the surrounding. Its own profile is delightful enough.

You can see, the striking contrast between dark grey and white façade interrupted by a sprightly shade of tangerine. A section also shows a striped pattern on the walls which is unusual to any house, country style or modern.

Rear end of the house

The architect was not negligent in giving the façade a chic appearance from all four sides. Its position allows a 360 degree view of the surrounding. Similarly, anyone can gain a sight of it from all sides as it is not covered by any boundary wall or big trees.

The rear end of the building does not have the same orange tint as of the front façade, but the contrast between dark and light shades makes it look remarkable anyway. Once the landscaping is complete and a garden is there to complete these meticulous planning, the house is bound to look even more beautiful.

Main door

A short walk across a narrow porch followed by a narrower wooden deck takes you to the main door. The sliding glass door is stylised in line with the classical Korean screens used to serve as partitions in older homes. You can obtain a closer look at the striped wall from here.

Hallway

A long hallway, decorated in a tasteful fashion, follows. It is decked up with a large mudroom locker and recessed shelves meant to house decorative items. Except for the wood texture, the entire space is painted in a prim white tone which glimmers under the influence of artificial lighting.

Living room

Open floor plan is the norm here so one side of the ground floor has been kept reserved for a reasonably spacious living room. A combination of exposed brick walls and beams add variety in this space. The storage units located in the under stair area perform the job of a tv cabinet, bookcase and display cabinet.

Large sliding glass windows and an array of trendy lighting fixture ensure the gleeful atmosphere is maintained in the interior all day long. A flight of stairs clad in wood carpet gives access to the first floor.

Kitchen

The other half of the room is reserved for a large U-shaped kitchen. It is decorated with wooden cabinets and floating shelves. Large windows ensure there is no dearth of sunshine in this space too. The dining area is located in front of the kitchen.

Kid’s room

The house is designed for a couple, serving as teachers in a local school, with kids. They wanted to have a comfortable and peaceful shelter for themselves and their children. The relaxing interior is designed keeping in mind their requirements as well as lifestyle.

They wanted to have an entire apartment dedicated to their children and their friends who come to visit them. This attic is a part of a duplex apartment built as an exclusive domain for the kid’s. The entire apartment boasts of a lovely kid friendly décor including a baby pink feature wall.

Media room

The cosy media room is located in another one of the garrets. Like other parts of the building, this small nook enjoys an abundance of sunshine. Except for the tiny tv table it has further arrangements for storage to accommodate the needs of a modern household.

“A comfortable house is a great source of happiness.” And, thanks largely to its masterful design, this house certainly looks like the very picture of amiability and happiness.
