The start of a new year is always a tough time. Our New Year’s resolutions often appear harder and harder to stick to – or even start – as January progress. On top of that, we sometimes look back at the things we wish we’d achieved in the previous year that still evade our grasp.

Still, we shouldn’t be pessimistic; with a new year comes new opportunity to finally break those bad habits and get around to those chores that we’ve so long put off.

With this in mind, today we’re doing our best to motivate you with our list of 10 things in your home that are making you feel lazy; hopefully helping you to identify problem areas in your home and get 2017 off to a good start.

1. That untidy garage

Have you got a garage or garden shed that’s been neglected?

It’s all too easy to let old tools, sports equipment, and bits and pieces build up in the garage collecting dust and taking up space. Time to have a go at getting that garage organised!

2. Unused gym equipment

Speaking of sports equipment, that’s perhaps the most common cause of our New Year negative feelings. Try to make a change this year by dusting off you’re old gym equipment and give a regular exercise routine a go.

3. Unclean car

Cleaning the car is a simple enough job, but an easy one to avoid. Get in a regular habit of keeping the car clear and tidy.

4. Cluttered kitchen

A clean and organised kitchen space is essential. It’s not just about doing the washing up, but also making sure that everything you need is easily accessible and the surfaces don’t get cluttered.

5. Pilling up paperwork

Seemingly trivial paperwork can build up to the point that it becomes stressful when you can't find what you need when you need it. So spend some time organising the study!

6. Atrocious attic/cellar

Like the garage, the attic or cellar can easily become a dumping ground for things we don’t know what to do with. Instead, spend a little time sorting out those old possessions.

7. Over-grown garden

Admittedly, maintaining a great garden is an on-going process that requires a lot of work, but it’s also true that every little helps. Trimming those over-grown shrubs and mowing the lawn regularly can make a big difference.

8. A collection of old clothes

If your wardrobe’s crammed full of old clothes that you hardly wear then maybe it’s time you part with some of that old clothing and get that wardrobe organised.

9. Unused terrace

An unused terrace is a terrible waste! If you’re lucky enough to have terrace space on your property then spend some time shaping it into an area you’ll want to use. If you’re unsure what to do with the area, then why not seek some professional advice?

10. The dog!

If you’re feeling guilty about not giving the dog enough exercise then maybe it’s time to change your habits and budget more time to spend with man’s best friend.

Now that we’ve identified a few problems, let’s look at some solutions! Here are 5 ways to update your home for the New Year.
