Choosing gorgeous kitchen cabinets for your space is only one part of the process, as any professional kitchen planners will tell you that maximising the functionality of your room should be a key consideration, alongside the obvious aesthetic concerns. If you're not quite sure where to start on your quest for improved organization, have no fear, as we have a host of fabulous ideas for you to put into effect and they're more than just practical… they're all rather pretty too.

1. Add baskets to your drawers.

Standard drawer divides are so last year and now, it's all about including baskets! Great for cutlery, condiments or even bread, wicker drawer baskets help to maintain good air flow and create a cheerfully rustic aesthetic as well. Imagine how great these would look in a country cottage kitchen!

2. Hang large pans on the wall.

We all know that large cooking pots and pans are guilty of swallowing up every inch of precious storage space in kitchen cabinets, which is why wall-mounted racks are such a fabulous idea! They add such an industrial vibe, while also being incredibly practical too. You'll finally have an excuse to buy some very attractive pans now, as they'll always be on show!

3. Hinge your cabinet doors.

In small kitchens, cabinet doors can become something of a real chore, given that they take up lots of room, but if you hinge them in the centre, you'll be shocked at how much more accessible everything will become. Hinged doors also look brilliantly modern and add a touch of sleek sophistication too.

4. Have shelf hangers for small jars.

Small spice jars can be an absolute nightmare to house, as they take up a deceptive amount of space in cabinets and are so easy to lose! A wonderful solution to this problem is to use small shelf accessories, as seen here, to keep the things you use every single day, within easy reach. Despite being a product of necessity, these hangers actually manage to look really great as well.

5. Install open shelving for ease of use.

Sometimes, cabinet doors are more hassle than they're worth, which is why so many kitchen planners are now designing spaces that are door-free, at least at the top! The look of wide and open shelving is aesthetically-pleasing, but in addition, there is a high degree of practicality as well! No longer will you have to restrain yourself to choosing certain sizes of plates, as they can overhang a shelf a little and you'll never lose anything again, as it will all be on display.

6. Make the room more family-friendly.

Kitchens shouldn't be spaces that are used only by the passionate chefs in the home, as they can be a natural gathering spot for all the family, if you seek to make them a little more accessible. We love the idea of painting one wall with blackboard paint, so as to make for a creative way to create shopping lists or display menu ideas. You could even leave each other messages, which would be really fun!

7. Don't hide the windows away.

Here's a VERY practical kitchen design tip for you! If at all possible, try not to cover up your kitchen windows, as that will make for a darker and far more gloomier room than is acceptable. By increasing light flow in your kitchen, you can also enjoy better ventilation too, which we all know can be critical!

8. Combine your storage and dividing needs.

If you have an open-plan scheme in your home, you might like to still divide your kitchen from the surrounding floor plan, just to break things up a bit and that's where open-sided shelving can come into play. Beautiful and great for splitting up a large space without being too solid, the shelves themselves can also double up as an exposed larder system. Amazing, no?
