In addition to architectural design, they also specialise in planning applications, building regulations, pre-planning advice and feasibility assessments, technical and interior design and tender procurement.

Let’s take a look at one of the firm’s most eye-catching projects: a dormer loft conversion in Brockley.

The design details

This project began when their clients, a family of four living in Brockley, approached UA to assist with expanding their living space via a dormer loft conversion. Their existing home, a two-storey Victorian property with three bedrooms and one tiny bathroom, no longer suited their busy, family lifestyle. In addition, they weren’t sure how to go about obtaining planning permission for their dream home, especially as the parents wanted to create a separate level with a master bedroom and en suite bathroom for enhanced privacy and comfort.

Using their range of planning and design expertise, the UA team were able to deliver a bespoke transformation by maximising the space as follows:

• An entire new level via an L-shaped dormer loft.

• Plenty of additional space in the form of a private master bedroom, en-suite bathroom, and multi-functional office.

The breathtaking bathroom

A dormer loft conversion is a fantastic way of acquiring extra space and increasing property value, but the transformation didn’t end there. Sophisticated interiors and sleek design elements were created and added throughout to elevate visual appeal with precise attention to detail.

The contemporary bathroom features a modern free-standing curved bath, a spacious glass-fronted shower, eye-catching colour palette and stylish fixtures all bathed in natural light coming from expansive windows.

And thanks to this new master bathroom, this family of four no longer have to share the tiny restroom on the lower level.

More space, more functionality

Adjacent to the bathroom, the luxurious master bedroom benefits from generous windows, plenty of sunshine and innovative storage, creative solutions to ensure an elegantly designed space with bespoke functionality.

Neutral interiors, including pale beech wood flooring and soft, muted walls, reflect natural sunshine while accents of greens and pinks introduce a chic and playful pop of colour.

More space, more functionality (continued)

The couple’s original bedroom downstairs was transformed into a play area for the children, creating much needed extra living space and adding increased comfort and value to this contemporary family home.
