In every assignment TenBrasWestinga tries to find the problem through research and analysis. The designs are based on the typical characteristics of the often complex sites and the unique aspects of each task. The spatial design is developed from the urban scale and from interior scale simultaneously. Spatial quality, value of experience and for each project a unique design are achieved stepwise in conjunction with functionality, building economics and building physics. This is achieved by working in parallel working teams where users, consultants and builders participate in.
Experience with monuments in historic city centers produced the office a series of interesting projects for cultural buildings and transformations, such as the combined expansion of Pop venue Melkweg and theater Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam, the transformation of a former PowerStation in Dordrecht to cultural center, renovation of Vondelpark pavilion in Amsterdam, expanding theater De Lawei in Drachten, renovation of theaters in Leiden, Alkmaar, Steenwijk and Tiel, the expansion and renovation of Pop venue Hedon Zwolle and the renovation of Museum Flehite in Amersfoort and Castle Groeneveld in Baarn.
Innovative residential concepts in care led to the renovation and expansion of residential care center Huize Het Oosten, transformation the Joseph church in Hilversum to apartments, a residential care complex in Rheden and the renovation of the former town hall in Laren to a health center.
Our office is frequently asked to design interiors, such as the establishments of libraries in Rosmalen, Hoogvliet and Almere, theaters in Drachten and Tiel and the exhibition for the 400 year jubilee of the University of Groningen.
TenBrasWestinga has an open design attitude in which our architectural ambition is just as important as the usability and the needs of the client and future users.
Architecture, interior design and urbanism are inextricably linked. TenBrasWestinga designs from outside-in and from inside-out. In such a way we try to pull the public space into the building and the other way around. By involving urbanism and interiors in the architecture of a building arises the added value that makes the difference.
